The BLAKE FAMILY

The Blake family motto, Virtus Sola Nobilitat, as recorded in ancient heraldic archives translates as “Virtue is the only nobility”.

It is believed that Joshua Blake, the oldest known ancestor, came from England in the late 1700’s and was a lawyer by profession.  He married Mary Cupp, daughter of John and Ann Cupp.  Their children were James William, Ann Rebecca, John Thomas, Virginia, Robert Hutchison, Beaulah Jane and Mary Louise

Following are 5+ Generations of the Blake family.  Research began with Hazel Blake Robertson's book, Four Generations of Descendants of Isaac and Jane Blake of Marshall County West Virginia - from there I researched censuses, birth/marriage/death certificates and other documentation.

Sources were included whenever possible but note some were from online family trees without the originating sources.

Many of the names here are also on the John R. Huggans pages.  Just click the "HOME" button below and then click on any of the green buttons under the name John Randolph Huggans.  Or click here and perform a site search.

If there are any errors or omissions - or if you have pictures and/or memories of those included on the following pages - please click on the email link below.  I'd like to have more than just names/dates/places whenever possible.

   25 JULY 2010:

Blake Generation 5 has now been divided into 8 pages plus a Sources page.  This should make navigating the pages faster. I also went through the JR Huggans, George 'Goen' Huggins, Henry and Sampson pages to correct applicable links that point to the Blake pages.

   25 JULY 2010:

Blake Generation 4 has now been divided into 2 pages plus a Sources page.

   17 JULY 2010:
Some of the later Blake Generation pages are very slow to open due to the page size.  Currently, the Blake Gen 1 page is 28kb, Gen 2 is 105kb, Gen 3 is 773kb, Gen 4 is 3.15MB, Gen 5 pg1 is 3.23MB, Gen 5 pg2 is 3.19MB, Gen 5 pg 3 is 3.17MB and Gen 5 pg 4 is 3.23MB.  I have DSL and it takes awhile for many of the links to open.  I can't imagine how long it takes for those who use a dial-up connection.

So, I'm going to revise the now 1-page Gen 4 into two pages (plus a sources page) and the now 4-page Gen 5 will be doubled to eight pages.  (The Gen 5 sources page will remain as is).
