   362.  ELIZABETH GIBONY aka LIZZIE GIBONY (REBECCA⁴ HORNER, RACHEL³ BLAKE, SOLOMON ALVA², ISAAC¹) was born 07 March 1878 in Jackson County and died from a cerebral hemorrhage and diabetes on 21 June 1937 at her home in Parkersburg, Wood County.  She was buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Williamstown, Wood County. Elizabeth “Gibbony” (age 2) lived with parents "Thos” (24) & Rebecca (24).  Thomas was a farm laborer and had been unemployed 2 months during the census period.  At the time of the census, Thomas and Rebecca had the measles.

  On 26 October 1895, Elizabeth married OSBORNE O. BEARY in Willowdale, Jackson County.  (Click here to view Marriage license/Minister's return).    The son of JOHN BEARY, he was born 10 November 1871 in Monroe County, Ohio and died 19 April 1946 from pulmonary edema at his home in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁷⁴⁵

   At the time of their marriage, they lived in Jackson County - Osborne in Topins Grove and Elizabeth in Willowdale. ⁰⁵

Elizabeth Gibony “Berry” (21), husband Osborne (30) & children Edith (3) & Harold (1) lived in her parents’ rented home with parents Thomas (44) & Rebecca (44) and Elizabeth’s siblings Blanche (20), Charles (17) and Rachel (15).  Thomas worked as a fireman at an Electric Plant, Blanche was a dressmaker who was unemployed 1 month during the census term, Charles was an errand boy for a meat shop who had been unemployed 6 months and Osborne was a teamster.  Rachel attended school for 6 months.  Rebecca had given birth to 4 children and Elizabeth had had 2 children – all were still living.

  1910 Census – Parkersburg, Wood County  (Census taken 27 April): ¹⁷⁴⁷

Elizabeth Beary (age 30), husband “Osmond” (38) and children Edith (13), Harold (11) & Clyde (7) lived in Elizabeth’s parents’ rented home with her parents Thomas (53) & Rebecca (52).  Also living there was Elizabeth’s brother Charley (26).  Thomas worked as a lumber mill watchman, Charles was a dock caulker and Osborne was a lumber mill driver.  Edith, Harold and Clyde attended school.  Rebecca had given birth to 4 children and Elizabeth to 3 – all were still living.

Elizabeth Beary (age 47), husband Osburn (48) and children Harold (21), Clyde (17), “Helen” {Martha} (7) and Harry (3) lived in her parents’ rented home with parents Thomas “Tibgibly” (64) &  “Rebecka” (64).  Thomas was a laborer, Osburn a steel mill shearman, Harold a carpenter and Clyde was a steel mill pipefitter.  Martha attended school.

I can’t locate the family.

  At the time of her death on 21 June 1937, Elizabeth lived at 119 – 7^th Street in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁸

  At the time of his death on 19 April 1946, Osborne lived at 1705 Murdoch in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁷⁴⁵

Children of ELIZABETH GIBONY and OSBORNE O. BEARY:

              i.   EDITH GERTRUDE BEARY was born 21 August 1896 in Eureka, Pleasants County, West Virginia and died from acute nephritis on 26 September 1917 at Parkersburg Hospital in Parkersburg, Wood County.  She was buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Williamstown, Wood County.                    During the 1900¹⁷⁴⁶ & 1910¹⁷⁴⁷ censuses, she lived with her parents.

                   On 21 August 1915, Edith married HARRY SPATES CUNNINGHAM in Parkersburg, Wood County. (Click here to view Marriage license/Minister's return).   The son of HARRY B. CUNNINGHAM and LYDA A. ___,  he was born 02 June 1886 in Clarksburg, Harrison County²⁰ and died January 1978 (possibly in Wood County). ²⁹

                   At the time of their marriage, Harry and Edith lived in Parkersburg, Wood County.⁰⁵

                   On 12 September 1918¹⁶, Harry completed a WWI Draft Application.  He lived in Parkersburg and worked as a sheet metal foreman for Parkersburg Iron & Steel Company.  He was of medium height with a slender build, brown eyes and brown hair.  Nearest relative was father, Harrison Cunningham.

                   On 08 November 1922, Harry married (2) LAURA VIRGINIA McTAGGART in Wood County.  (Click here to view Marriage license/Minister's return).   The daughter of WILLIAM McTAGGART and IDA V. RYMER, she was born 28 October 1891 (in Pleasants County⁰⁵) and died August 1973 (possibly in Parkersburg, Wood County). ²⁹

                   Harry’s Social Security number was issued before 1951 in West Virginia; Laura’s number was issued 1973 in West Virginia. ²⁹

             ii.   HAROLD EDWIN BEARY was born 06 April 1900 in (Parkersburg¹⁷⁵¹), Wood County¹⁷⁵⁰ and died 05 March 1952 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.  He was buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Williamstown, Wood County.  (Click here to view Death Register). 

                   During the 1900¹⁷⁴⁶, 1910¹⁷⁴⁷ & 1920¹⁷⁴⁸ censuses, he lived with his parents.

                   In about 1924¹⁷⁵², Harold married HAZEL M. CRANDALL.  The daughter of GEORGE W. CRANDALL and LILLIE BOSWORTH, she was born 02 April 1894 (in West Virginia¹⁷⁵²) and died July 1974 (possibly in Wetzel County). ²⁹

                   During the 1930 census¹⁷⁵², Harold E. "Beary" (33) & Hazel (36) lived in a rented ($30) home at 1700 Covert Street in Parkersburg, Wood County with his step-children Richard C. Lahey (17), Jean Earl (14), Donald Earl (10) as well as Hazel’s mother Lillie Crandall (67) and lodgers Gerald Weltner (18) and Harry Thorn (21).  Harold worked as a city fireman, Gerald was a service station laborer and Harry Thorn was a furniture salesman.  None had served in the military.  Jean and Donald attended school.

                   By the time of this death, Harold was a retired fireman and lived at 1532 – 20^th Street in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁷⁵¹

                   Hazel’s Social Security number was issued before 1951 in West Virginia. ²⁹

            iii.   CLYDE H. BEARY was born 27 July 1902 (in Wood County⁰⁵) and died April 1971. ²⁹

                   During the 1910¹⁷⁴⁷ & 1920¹⁷⁴⁸ censuses, he lived with his parents.

                   I can’t locate him on the 1930 census.

                   On 24 February 1934, Clyde married HOSEA BELLE DURST in Parkersburg, Wood County. (Click here to view Marriage license/Minister's return).  The daughter of IRVIN DURST and MARY ADDINAH SHINN, she was born 17 January 1913 (in Jackson County⁰⁵) and died 18 January 2000 (possibly in Wood County). ²⁹

At the time of their marriage, Clyde and Hosea lived in Parkersburg - Clyde at 601 – 13^th Street and Hosea at 1054 – 31^st Street. ⁰⁵

Clyde and Hosea’s Social Security numbers were issued before 1951 in West Virginia. ²⁹

            iv.   MARTHA LOUISE BEARY was born 07 June 1912 in Parkersburg, Wood County and died 04 September 1927 at St Joseph Hospital in Parkersburg, Wood County from general perioditis and pneumonia post-surgery.  She was buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Williamstown, Wood County.                    During the 1920 census, she lived with her parents. ¹⁷⁴⁸

                   I can’t locate her on the 1930 census.

             v.   HARRY THOMAS BEARY was born 28 October 1916 in West Virginia and died 05 February 1961 from a coronary thrombosis at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁷⁵³  He was buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Parkersburg, Wood County. ¹⁷⁵³

                   During the 1920 census, he lived with his parents. ¹⁷⁴⁸

                   I can’t locate him on the 1930 census.

                   Harry married ____ BOSO who was still living when Harry died. ¹⁷⁵⁴

                   Prior to his death on 05 February 1961¹⁷⁵³, Harry lived at 1007 – 40^th Street in Vienna, Wood County.  He worked as a clerk for the State.

   363.  ALBERT SHAVER (SARAH ANN⁴ HORNER, RACHEL³ BLAKE, SOLOMON ALVA², ISAAC¹) was born 18 August 1879 in Pond Creek, Jackson County¹⁷⁵⁵ and died 31 October 1967 at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital in Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

Albert Shaver (age 9 months) and parents Martin (23) & Sarah (22) lived on the farm with (and belonging to) Martin’s parents Henry (52) & Rebecca Shaver (57).  Also living there were Martin’s sister Amanda (24) and nieces Disey (7) & Ella (2).  Martin and Henry were farmers.  Rebecca could not read or write and Henry could not write.

Albert Shaver (age 20) lived on a farm (no mortgage) with parents Martin (42) & Sarah (43) and siblings Rebecca (19), Laura (17), Nelia (15), Lucille (13), Henry (11), Morton (9), Lawrence (8), Maud (5), Margaret (2) and William (6 months).  Martin was a farmer.  Nelia, Lucille, Henry and Morton attended school for 5 months; Lawrence attended school for 1 month.  Sarah had given birth to 11 children; all were still living.

Albert Shaver (age 30) & wife Lilia (24) lived in a rented home with children Cecil (7), Glen (6), Hershel (3), {Sarah} Marie (2) and Albert's sister, "Luelaie" {Lulsa} (23).  Albert worked as a laborer for Ri_rt Works.  Cecil and Glen attended school.  Lillie had given birth to 4 children; all were still living.

"Alant" Shaver (age 40) & wife "Billy" (34) lived in a rented home with children Glen (15), Hershel (13), {Sarah} Marie (11), {Martin} Denver (9) and {Adrian} Dale (6 months).  Albert was employed as a streetcar conductor.  Glen, Hershel, Sarah Marie and Martin Denver attended school.

1930 Census –  Botzgum-Wyoga Road, Stow, Summit Co., Ohio  (Census taken 22 April): ¹⁷⁵⁹

Albert Shaver (age 50) & wife Lilly (44) lived on a rented truck farm with children Hershel (23), Martin D. (19), "Adrain" D. (10), Charles (7), Norma G. (6) and Alberta M. (2 years 10 months).  Albert was a truck farmer, Hershel was a building supplies truck driver and Martin was a construction laborer.  None of them served in the military.  Adrian and Charles attended school.

             ii.   GLEN SHAVER was born 24 October 1904 in Ravenswood, Jackson County. ¹⁷⁶¹

                   I can’t locate him in the 1930 census.

            iii.   HERSCHEL C. SHAVER was born 29 July 1906 in Ohio¹⁷⁶⁰ and died 17 June 1983 at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital in Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   During the 1910¹⁷⁵⁷, 1920¹⁷⁵⁸ & 1930¹⁷⁵⁹ censuses, he lived with his parents.  In 1930, he was employed as a building supplies truck driver.                     

                   Herschel married MARGARET HOUSLEY. ²⁰⁶³  The daughter of LEIDIGH HOUSELEY and EDNA GRANT, she was born 28 March 1913^29,280 in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio and died 04 April 2008 in Summerville, Dorchester County, South Carolina. ²⁸⁰   She was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, Summit County, Ohio. ²⁸⁰

                   Prior to his death on 17 June 1983, Herschel was married and lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   Margaret Shaver, 95, of Summerville, South Carolina, widow of Herschel C. Shaver, died Friday April 4, 2008 at Summerville Medical Center, South Carolina.

                   Mrs. Shaver was born March 28, 1913 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, a daughter of the late Leidigh Housley and Edna Grant Housley . She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended college. Mrs. Shaver was a retired employee of the Cuyahoga Falls School district. She was a lifetime member of United Presbyterian Church of Cuyahoga Falls.

                   She was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Housley and Jim Housley; sister, Ruth Whittington; and son, Harold Shaver. She is survived by son, Charles W. Shaver and his wife Elesa of Summerville, S.C.; sister, Anna Smith of Cuyahoga Falls; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Shaver of Huntington, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Charles N. Shaver (Mary) of Cypress, Texas, Melanie Hummer (Joe) of Enola, Pa. and Wendy Shaver-Wilson (Nick) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Joey Hummer, Lucy Hummer, Maggie Shaver-Wilson, Randy Shives, Nick Shives and Emily Shives; and many nieces and nephews.

                   Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel, Cuyahoga Falls. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg.                    During the 1910¹⁷⁵⁷ & 1920¹⁷⁵⁸ censuses, she lived with her parents.

                   In about 1927¹⁷⁶², Sarah married ANTHONY LANGE.  The son of Italian immigrants FRANK LANGE and MARY _____, he was born about 1908 in Ohio¹⁷⁶² and died prior to Sarah’s death of 28 March 1993. ³⁸⁷

                   During the 1930 census¹⁷⁶², Anthony (age 22) & {Sarah} Marie (22) lived in a rented ($35) home in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio with children Mary (2 years 3 months) and Eleanor (7 months).

                   Sarah’s Social Security number was issued 1967 in Ohio. ²⁹

             v.   MARTIN DENVER SHAVER was born 19 May 1910⁷⁴ in Ohio¹⁷⁶² and died 27 December 1989 in Lake County, Florida. ⁷⁴

                   During the 1920¹⁷⁵⁸ & 1930¹⁷⁵⁹ censuses, he lived with his parents.  In 1930, he was employed as a construction laborer.

                   Martin married EVELYN IRENE LEWIS. ¹⁷³⁴  The daughter of RAYMOND LEWIS and MINNIE REED, she was born 20 April 1915 and died 03 August 1979 in Leesburg, Lake County, Florida. ⁷⁴

                   Martin and Evelyn’s Social Security numbers were issued before 1951 in Ohio. ²⁹

            vi.   ADRIAN DALE SHAVER was born 26 July 1920 in Stow, Summit County, Ohio and died 06 August 1946. ¹⁷⁶¹

                   During the 1930 census, he lived with his parents. ¹⁷⁵⁹

                   Adrian married MARY GLENROSE BALLIS. ¹⁷⁶¹  The daughter of LLOYD BALLIS and SCHARLOTTE MARGARET WEINMANN, she was born 30 August 1921²⁹ in Akron, Summit County, Ohio⁵² and died 31 December 1998^29,52 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   Before 30 January 1942⁷², the marriage ended in divorce.  There were no children.

                   Mary also married:

                   (2) RUSSELL VERNON MUSTARD.¹⁷⁶¹ The son of CARRY MUSTARD and COVA __, he was born 17 February 1924 at Elm Grove, Pike County, Ohio. ²⁰⁶⁴

                   (3) BLYTHE B. BENJAMIN.¹⁷⁶¹ The son of ODA BENJAMIN and ROSE E. WICKS, he was born 23 March 1914^29,52,2065 at Martin County, Indiana²⁰⁶⁵ and died 28 March 1999 in Stow, Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   On 30 January 1942⁷², Adrian enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He had been living in Summit County, Ohio and was employed as a “Semiskilled chauffeurs and drivers, bus, taxi truck and tractor”.

                   Mary and 3^rd husband Blythe’s Social Security numbers were issued before 1951 in Ohio. ²⁹

            ix.   CHARLES EDWARD SHAVER was born 26 September 1922²⁹ (in Stow, Summit County, Ohio¹⁷⁶¹) and died 05 February 1979 at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   During the 1930 census, he lived with his parents. ¹⁷⁵⁹

                   Charles married RUTH HAZEL ATWOOD. ¹⁷⁶³  She was born 23 November 1922 (in Tennessee¹⁷⁶³) and died 15 July 2003 (possibly in Seville, Medina County, Ohio).²⁹

                   By the time of his death on 05 February 1979, Charles was married and lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County, Ohio. ⁵²

                   He was retired from FMC, Nitro, with 32 years' service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Eleanor, and a member of VFW.

                   Surviving: wife, Velma Virginia Cox Lambert; sister, Mary Howard of Ravenswood; caregiver, Verjean Sayre of Eleanor.

Channing A. Shaver, 90, of Little Pond Creek Road, Belleville, passed away May 24, 2005, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born at Belleville, a son of the late Johnny Lawrence (Tunk) Shaver and Mabel Kimes Shaver. Channing had attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Belleville, where he was cemetery caretaker and grave digger for many years and was a rural mail carrier assistant. He enjoyed farming and animals.

Surviving are five nephews, Keith (Doug) Shaver and his wife, Margit, of Killeen, Texas, Lloyd (Larry) Shaver and wife, Helena, of Parkersburg, Craig (Hank) Shaver and wife, Sireta, of Parkersburg, David (Kimbo) Shaver of Davisville and Jeffery Scott (Jeff) Shaver of Parkersburg; three nieces, Rebecca (Becky) Shaver of Parkersburg, Sherry (Mouse) Smith and her husband, Roderick, of Cutler, Ohio, and Bonita Kay Sayre and husband, Bill, of Parkersburg; six great-nieces and nephews, Cindy Shaver Tusman, Clint Douglass Sayre, Steven Lloyd Shaver, Isaac John Smith, Cassie Lynn Smith and Travis C. Sayre; several step great-nieces and nephews; a great-great-nephew, KP Jake Shaver Tusman; a sister-in-law, Ruth Eaton Shaver of Parkersburg; special friends, Harry and Marie Wilson of Belleville; and his dog, Zippie.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd L. (Peck) Shaver; a niece, Denise Tina Shaver; and a great-nephew, Jason Shaver.

                   Ruth was a homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, was a good cook and friend who cared about others and was of the Baptist faith.

Aileen and James were married for 3 years.  James worked as a steam engineer in a coal mine and had not served in the military.  William was a coal miner and had not served in the military.

                   On 28 January 1944¹⁸⁰¹, William entered service in the U.S. Navy.  Ranked a CSF, he served in Saipan, Guam, Luzon, Layte, Iwo Jima and Okinawa and was awarded 6 Battle Stars.  William and Cleta were living in Ravenswood, Jackson County when he joined the Navy.

                   RAVENSWOOD, W. Va. - Cleta E. Matics, 93, of Ravenswood, W. Va., died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Eldercare of Ripley, W. Va.

                   She was born Sept. 27, 1911, in Sherman, W. Va., a daughter of the late David Everett Wade and Ida Cordellia Horner Wade.

                   Mrs. Matics was a homemaker and she was a member of Independent United Brethren Church in Ravenswood.

                   Surviving are two sons, William E. Matics and wife, Eileen, of Ravenswood, and Robert L. Matics and wife, Wanda, of Williamstown, W. Va.; a sister, Kathryn Ihle of Ravenswood; a brother, Donald Ray and wife, Ada, of Ravenswood; 14 grandchildren, including William Matics, Robert Matics and Summer Matics of Covington; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

                   Mrs. Matics was preceded in death by her husband, W. G.; a son, Edward; a granddaughter, Kathy; and a grandson, Bret.

                   A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Rouch Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Anton Hager officiating. Interment will be in Ravenswood Cemetery.

                   The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

                   The U.S. Veterans Gravesites database showed he served as TSGT in the US Air Force in WW II & Korea. He is buried at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, King County, Washington.

                   OBITUARY

                   William John Gruber, 92, of Fort Myers slipped away peacefully on November 22, 2005.

                   He was born in New Brighton, PA the son of the late Charles and Nellie Gruber. Bill moved to Fort Myers in 1963 and worked for Gulf American Corporation, the original developer of Cape Coral, for over 25 years. He was an avid musician and played with a local band for many years. He was predeceased by his son Bill and his brother Ivan.

                   Bill is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Isabell, his daughter Carole (Joe) McStravick of Rockland, MA; stepdaughter Arlene (Richard) Tremble of Elwood City, PA, and daughter-in-law Grace Gruber of Ohio, 5 stepchildren and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

                   A memorial service will be celebrated at the family home on Sunday, November 27, 2005, the family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM. Funeral arrangements by Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home, Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.
