CHESTER BURL HUGGINS

HUGGINS, Chester Burl, 85, of North Avenue, Cameron, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at home, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born May 19, 1920 in Wetzel County, a son of the late Clarence and Mary Davis Huggins.

He was a US Navy Veteran, having served in WWII; member of the American Legion Post 18, Cameron; and retired from Magma Copper Company, Superior, Ariz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children; three brothers and; three sisters.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Helen Burge Huggins; a daughter, Janie (Daun) Suarez of Ariz.; and two other daughters; three sisters, Olga Plants, Rubie Wilson and Janet Richmond, all of Moundsville, W.Va.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements entrusted with Anderson Funeral Home, 39 Maple Avenue, Cameron.

 

 

CHLOE GENEVA KING HUGGINS

WILEYVILLE, W.Va.  Chloe Genova Huggins, 93, of Wileyville died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Wetzel County Hospital.

She was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Pine Grove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary Elizabeth Willey King.

She is survived by three daughters, Dollie and Robert Starkey of Weirton, W.Va., Doris Carpenter and fiance Don Dye and Shirley and Raymond Rice, all of Pine Grove; two sons, George Anderson of Smithfield, W.Va. and John Anderson of Wileyville; 14 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.

She was a member of the Loman Baptist Church and a self-taught organist. She was a homemaker who enjoyed piecing quilts for nearly 60 years; but her greatest interest and love were her five children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Chalmer "Dick" Anderson, whom she married in 1930; her second husband, William "Bill" Huggins; three brothers and four sisters; one great-grandson, George Allen Anderson III and one daughter-in-law, Mary Anderson.

Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, W.Va. today from 2-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.

 

 

CLYDE EARL HUGGINS

Clyde E. Huggins, 75, resident of County R. 57, Galion, died Saturday morning at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green after a traffic accident.

 He was born in Pine Grove, WV, Feb. 22, 1917 to the late Clarence and Rachael (Davis) Huggins and had been a Shelby area resident the majority of his life.

 Huggins was a millwright in the Toledo area for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Crawford County Coonhunters Club, the Millwright Local Union no. 1393, Richland Area Beekeepers and Mavericks of Ohio Camping Club. Huggins was a World War ll veteran, serving in the United States Army.

 Survivors include his former wife, Eileen M. Biglin Huggins; one son and daughter-in-law, Vincent S. and Susan G. Huggins of Galion; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. and John D. Broderick of Shelby; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; three brothers, Chester and Clarence Huggins of Moundsville, WV and Coy Huggins of Apache Junction, AZ; five sisters, Ethel Goodnight, Ruby Wilson, Olga Plants, Janet Richmond and Sophie Wheeler all of Moundsville, WV.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Donna Morehead Huggins, in 1988 and one sister, Jessie Ebersole. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Father John C. Missler will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the Crawford County Multiple Sclerosis Society and left in care of the funeral home.

 

 

HOY BRAXTON HUGGINS

Hoy B. Huggins, 63, of Juniper Avenue, Moundsville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 in the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

He was born August 14, 1937 in Wileyville, WV, son of the late Melvin and Lou Baker Huggins.  He was a retired boilermaker with the Boilermakers Local 667, Winfield, WV and a Protestant by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Edna Huggins.

Surviving are his wife, Janice D. Utter Huggins; two sons, Joseph B. Huggins and his fiance Vicki, of Moundsville, and James (Heather) Lucas of Clarksburg, WV; two daughters, Mrs. Troy (Malleah L.) Yoho of Glen Easton, and Mrs. Joseph (Amy L.) Gonchoff of Glen Easton; a brother, Norman (Elva) Huggins of Moundsville; and 12 grandchildren.

Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 PM, Tuesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 20, 2001, with the Rev. Scott Melott officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 

 

RUBIE ESTHER HUGGINS WILSON

WILSON, Rubie Esther (Huggins) 83, of Moundsville, W.Va., died Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, W.Va.

Rubie was born March 1, 1925, in Pine Grove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clarence O. and Mary R. (Davis) Huggins.

She was a retired nurse; and member of the Foursquare Church, Moundsville. In addition, she was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; and past president of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Moundsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Friend E. Wilson; a grandson, Robert E. Wilson; a granddaughter, Lisa Wilson; four brothers, Clyde, Clarence, Coy and Chester Huggins; and three sisters, Ethel Goodnight, Jessie Ebersole and Sophia Wheeler.

Rubie is survived by her five children, Thomas Wilson and his wife, Colleen, of Kearneysville, Ohio, David L. Wilson and his wife, Joyce, of Moundsville, James R. Wilson and his wife, Lorie, of Iowa, Robert E. Wilson of Kearney, Ariz., and Nancy Vandenberg and her husband, Dennis, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters, Janet Richmond and Olga Plants both of Moundsville; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m., Sunday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., Monday, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008, with Pastor Robert Muster officiating.

Interment will be in Graysville Cemetery.

Thomas J. Huggins, 74, a life resident of Bolivar and the Bolivar area, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Tammy Huggins at Bolivar, O., following a long illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1930, at Allister, W.Va., a son of the late Harry and Margaret (Hartley) Huggins and the late foster parents, Henry and Frances Mason, who raised him from birth. He worked in the construction field all his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the peacetime era from 1955 through 1957. He was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ at Bolivar, O., and was a member of the Bolivar Jass Club. He loved to fish and hunt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. (Corn) Huggins, who died on Oct. 27, 1993; a special friend, Audrey A. (Lebold) Burris Lawrence, who died on April 25, 2004; two foster brothers, Vernon and Odgar Mason; and two foster sisters, Jane Cochran and Hazel Howell.

Surviving are a son, Thomas D. (Tamra) Huggins of Bolivar, O., with whom he lived; a daughter, Alice F. Huggins of New Philadelphia, O.; three grandchildren, Misty Morris of Bolivar, O., Nicole (Marty) Hersberger of Berlin, O., and Mariah Huggins of Bolivar, O.; four great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Luke Morris of Bolivar, O., and Jacie and Daisy Hersberger of Berlin, O.; a sister, Mary Smith of West Virginia; a foster brother, Benny Mason of Washington Court House, O.; a foster sister, Wilda Anderson of Reader, W.Va.; four half-brothers, Harold (Barbara) Huggins of Wintersville, O., Wayne (Sandra) Huggins of New Martinsville, W.Va., Don (Sarah) Huggins of West Virginia, and Paul (Kathleen) Huggins of Wyleville, W.Va.; and two half-sisters, Wanda (Frank) Jarral of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Shelby (Neil) Norris of Knob Fork, W.Va.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept., 4, 2004, in Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar, O. This service will be followed with calling hours in St. John United Church of Christ, 409 Park Ave. SE, Bolivar, O., from noon to 2 p.m. At 2 p.m. there will be a Memorial Service in the church. Rev. Carol Clements will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in memory of Thomas J. Huggins, P.O.  WILLIAM "BILL" PERRY HUGGINS

William 'Bill' P., 78, of New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, August 21, 2000, in Hopemont Hospital, Terra Alta, WV. He is a retired construction worker for Local No. 1139, Wjeeling, and a member of the Higgins Chapel Church of Christ, near Pine Grove. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Nellie J. Hawkins Huggins, on March 24, 1973; his parents, Andy C. and Daisey Belle Postlethwait Huggins; two brothers, Edward Huggins and Robert Huggins. Surviving are his wife, Chloe G. King Anderson Huggins; two sons, Bill Huggins of Wheeling and Andy Cox of Zanesville; a daughter, Elizabeth Bottillion of Sarasota, Fla; two step-sons, George Anderson of Pricetown, WV and John L. Anderson of Smithfield, WV; three step-daughters, Dollie Gump of Jacksonburg, Doris Carpenter and Shirley Rice, both of Pine Grove; a brother, Earl Huggins of Wileyville; a sister, Mildred Sibert of Moundsville; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment in Poole Cemetery, Wileyville.

 

 

WINFORD E. "PORKY" LEMASTERS

Winford E. "Porky" Lemasters, 84, of Follansbee, WV died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Weirton Medical Center, in Weirton, WV.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1916 in Wileyville, WV, a son of the late John and Pearl Huggins Lemasters.  He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Wilson Lemaster in 1964 and his second wife, Louise Midcap Lemasters in 1980.

He was a retired welder with 37 years of service with the former National Steel, Weirton.  He is also a member of their 25 year club.  He is a member of the Follansbee United Presbyterian Church and a Trustee of the Church in Follansbee, WV.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Pyle at home, whom he married in 1984; two sons, Don Lemasters and his wife, Myrna of New Cumberland, WV and Richard "Rick" Lemasters of Follansbee, WV; two daughters, Judy Smith and her husband, Dan of Colliers, WV, and Connie Tarr of Follansbee; one stepdaughter, Patty Cervenak and her husband, Gerald of Worthington, OH and Mary Hummel of McMurray, PA**; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Sunday, March 4, from 7-9 p.m. and Monday, March 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at James Funeral Home, 1245 Main St., Follansbee, where services will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Chris Noyes officiating.  Interment will follow in St Johns Cem., in Colliers, WV.

Jerry L. Morgan, 60, of Lancaster. died Thursday, July 25, 1991, his wife, Marlene F. Morgan, 58, of Lancaster, died Saturday, July 27, 1991. They were the owners and Realtors of Morgan Realty. They are survived by six children, one of whom is Monty and his wife, Molly Morgan, of Cuyahoga Falls; and many other relatives. MORRIS, R. Carl, 72, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., formerly of Moundsville, W.Va., died Sunday, February 3, 2008, in Westside Regional Medical Center, Plantation, Fla.

He was born in Wetzel County, W.Va. on February 7, 1935, a son of the late Andrew and Delia Huggins Morris.

Mr. Morris was the Security Manager at Plantation General Hospital in Plantation; and was a retired Captain from the Moundsville Police Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Morris Pastorius; and an infant brother, Robert Nelson Morris.

Gilbert Jr. of Roberts Ridge; two daughters, Sharlene Gilbert of Wheeling and Deborah Gilbert of Roberts Ridge; two brothers, Carl Morris of Moundsville and Elwood Morris of Boggs Run; and five sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Dunlap of Point Pleasant, W. PETTIT, Jean E. Wheeler, 74, of Moundsville, W.Va., died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, in Mound View Heath Care Center, Moundsville.

She was born September 19, 1932 in Moundsville, the daughter of the late William A. and Sophia V. Huggins Wheeler.

She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church; Oakdale Homemakers; Fairview Methodist Women; and Marshall County Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Wheeler; and a sister, Waneta Siburt.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Harold A. Pettit; three sons, Ronald (Mary) Pettit, Dean (Sherry) Pettit and Gene (Christie) Pettit, all of Moundsville; two daughters, Patricia Parsons of Moundsville and Sandra (Russ) Kashka of Henderson, Nev.; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Barbara) Wheeler; two sisters, Twilla (Robert) Rassmussen and Iris DeNoon, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cindy Murphy and Pastor Alan Hulley officiating.

Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, W.Va.

GERALD JOHN RUTAN

Rutan, John Gerald, age 87, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather died Monday, November 12, 2007 at home.

He was born November 19, 1919 on Roberts Ridge in Marshall County, WV the son of the late Doc and Eva Postlewait Rutan.

He was a WWII Army Veteran, a retired painter from Local #91, a member of the Proctor Church of Christ, an avid hunter and fisherman and spent the past 23 winters in Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Clem and Dale Rutan and a sister, May VanScyoc.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Midcap Rutan; a son, Olan (Trish) Rutan of Proctor; three daughters, Rebecca (Robert) Shields, Belinda (David) Meadows and Charlene (Russell) Cain, all of Proctor; three brothers, Lloyd Rutan of Roberts Ridge, Ray (Margaret) Rutan of Proctor and Wayne (Margie) Rutan of Moundsville; five sisters; Thelma (Roger) Rush, Audrey Lyle, Opal Woods, Olive Richie and Evelyn McClintock, all of Moundsville; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 6pm with Evangelist Don Cline officiating; followed by visitation from 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice, 132 Peters Run Road, Wheeling, WV 26003. 

 

 

RUSSELL CALVIN WEARLEY

Russell C. Wearley, 81, passed away peacefully Nov. 2, 2003, surrounded by his family.

Born in Akron, Mr. Wearley lived in the area all of his life. He retired in 1985 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with 35 years of service and was a member of Suffield United Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice; daughter, Robin; sisters, Marjorie and Verlyn; and brother, David. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Marjorie; sons, William (Barbara) and James (Connie); daughter, Patricia (Charles) Farris; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Wearley; sisters, Dolores (Paul) Schultz, Joyce (Raymond) Wyers, Donna Ahrnes, and Karen (Howard) King; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral service Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, with Rev. Earl F. Roberts officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park.
